He is the Lamb of God

His body is carved ivory (Songs 5:14b)

Whenever we read of ivory in Song of Songs, it always refers to death and the laying down of a life. The Bible makes reference to quite a lot of gemstones and each one of them comes from the earth. Ivory is different. Now please remember that the protection of elephants was not a priority in the times of Solomon. He imported gemstones and precious metals from all over. One of these commodities was ivory. To obtain ivory required an animal to die. And this brings us to the death of Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God.

Jesus Christ is the Bridegroom being described in Song of Songs chapter 5. His body was prepared as an offer by the Father. We read this in Hebrews 10.

Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, o God.’ “Previously saying, “sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), then He said, “behold, I have come to do Your will, o God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  (Heb 10:5-10)

To obtain the ivory, which is the fulfilment of the will of the Father, the body of Jesus was sacrificed. I don’t really think that we will ever truly understand what the death and resurrection of Jesus accomplished. That purpose was so important that it pleased the Father to crush Him. When we read this verse, we cannot help to ask how this can be. It pleased the Father? Did I read this correctly?

Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin (Isa 53:10)

The same Father that revealed His heart to Abraham when He instructed him to sacrifice Isaac, is the One that gave the order to sacrifice Jesus. Just listen to the heart of the Father.

Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Gen 22:2)

A while back I’ve read a sarcastic quote of an atheist. This person degraded the death and resurrection of Jesus to a laughing stock. I just realised that this person hasn’t got the faintest idea of our hopelessness without the events during that Passover. We can be quick to shake our heads and click with our tongues against such a person, but it compels us to look inward. Do we truly realise the impact? In the west we grow up with Biblical concepts. From an early age we are taught that Jesus died but don’t really think deeply about it. For us it’s knowledge and facts, and mostly without meaning or thankfulness. Actually, it’s such common knowledge for us, that a practicing Hindu told me a while back about Jesus dying for our sins. And remember, they worship thousands of idols and Jesus is only one of them. Still, this person talked about it as a fact of life. But there was no life in her knowledge.

We really need a fresh revelation of the ivory body of Jesus Christ to truly understand the immense accomplishment in the spirit. Only then will be really be able to celebrate with thankfulness and worship. The Lamb was slain! He has risen and if it wasn’t for that, it would’ve been impossible for you and me to be included into the New Covenant. Do you realise that the world under the Old Covenant was basically divided into two groups, the physical offspring of Abraham and the rest. The only way that a person could worship YHVH was to become a Jew. There was no other way. We, who are not Jews in the natural, wouldn’t have had a chance. Only the Blood of the Lamb makes it possible for us. We cannot lose our appreciation and admiration for the sacrifice of the Lamb.

John, the baptist, introduced Jesus to the people as the Lamb of God. This was the facet of the character of the Bridegroom that was then revealed. Because the nation was used to the sacrifice system, these few words alone should’ve painted the whole picture for them.

Behold the Lamb of God! (Joh 1:36b)

A message about the Lamb of God will be incomplete if we don’t look at the throne room events in Revelation. Please read chapter 4 yourself. Close your eyes and see what John described. The throne with the rainbow, the sea of glass, the twenty-four thrones for the elders and the four living creatures. Hear the praises and sound waves: ‘holy, holy, holy”. Feel the holy atmosphere. The throne room of YHVH is the highest and most beautiful place in the universe. Let the throne room be your final destination. When we live according to the standard set in the throne room, we cannot help but to fall in love with holiness. Then we will live a holy life.

In this holy atmosphere, something else took place. There was a sealed scroll. No-one was able to open it. In a coming message about Jesus as the Worthy One, I’ll expand more on this. Today I want to focus on the Lamb. It was vital to open the scroll. John understood the seriousness and he wept. Then one of the elders answered him: “the Lion from the tribe of Judah is able to break the seals and open the scroll”. Just imagine it. John was looking at the elder that was talking to him. The elder was talking about a lion, a powerful animal. John then turned to look and in the middle of the thrones stood, not a lion, but a lamb that appeared to have been slaughtered. Every time when I read the passage, my spirit is filled with so much emotion. There is the Lamb of God!

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to lose its seven seals.” And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent out into all the earth.  (Rev 5:5-6a)

We view a body of ivory, a slaughtered lamb as a victim, as something weak. But in the Kingdom of Light, which operates so different to our way of thinking, the Lamb is the strongest, most powerful and most worthy.

Let us take the time today to honour the Lamb of God for His prepared body of ivory. May we never lack thankfulness for what He has done for us. The greater our understanding of our hopelessness without Him, the greater our love for Him.
