Gazelles

I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the gazelles or by the does of the field, Do not stir up nor awaken love Until it pleases. (Son 2:7)

Do you also love nature?  For me, it is one of the places where the Lords glory is just so visible in a practical and consistent way.

We have the privilege of wild life right around our yard and I cannot get enough of watching the animals.  Especially the small antelopes.  You have to be real still, otherwise they will run off.

These beautiful animals are so swift on their feet and they scare very fast.  Their first instinct is to flee from whatever gave them a fright.  Hunters can use this against them to ‘force’ them into a trap.

We see the same thing in this Scripture.  This verse gets repeated four times in Song of Songs.  Each time it is a separation between sections.  Almost like a curtain dropping after a scene in a play.

The Lord is speaking to the daughters of Jerusalem; meaning His own people.  He is warning them not to stir up love too quickly.  They must wait until it pleases Him. (Some translations add the ‘Him’ at the end of last sentence).

What does this mean for us?  And how do we apply this verse to our daily lives?

Each one of us are on a very unique journey with the Lord.  We are all on different places and He is busy with different things in our lives.  None of us are the same.

We, humans, just love to place everyone in the same box and we want people to think, feel and act exactly the same as we do.  That is our misrepresentation of unity.  When the Lord has taught us something new, our first reaction is to share it and we expect others to be equally excited about it.  There is nothing wrong with sharing, but this verse is calling us to wisdom.

We have to ask Him if it will please Him to share with so and so.  We have to ask the Lord if this book or that teaching is now meant for whoever we want to give it to.  We have to ask for wisdom.  Maybe the Lord is busy with something completely the opposite in that person’s live and your sharing will cause that person to hurt or even to flee.

We are so eager for the Lord and it is good, but we have to pray for wisdom.

Wisdom for every conversation.

Wisdom for testifying and sharing.

Wisdom on when to keep quiet.

Wisdom rooted in Godly love.

Holy Spirit of Wisdom, we need You more than even before.  Guide us to stay within your leading, rooted in the love of the Father, in Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
